Understanding how physical education is taught and structured in different countries can offer insights for our programs. Often,we discover that our programs share more similarities than differences with those around the world. In fact, many of our current practices have been influenced by models from other nations, particularly those from Europe. This month’s Huddle will focus on physical education across Canada. Join us as we discuss teacher preparation, teaching methods, curriculum, and institutional practices.
About the Speakers:
Jen Lloyd-McKenzie is an Elementary Physical Education specialist and a past President of the Teachers Association of Physical and Health Educators in Nova Scotia, Canada. Jen was a winner of the 2020 National Award for Teaching Excellence in Physical Education and is currently on the Board of Directors for PHE Canada. Jen believes in encouraging students to engage in meaningful Physical Education through thoughtful and inspiring teaching practices that make Physical Education “fun, safe and fair.”
Dr. John Byl a retired professor of Physical Education at Redeemer University College in Ancaster, Ontario. John has authored or coauthored over 30 books. He is the winner of several professional awards, including the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for promoting physical activity across Canada, and is a regular workshop leader across Canada. He has a special interest in promoting fun and active participation for all children.
Dr. Robert Pangrazi is a Professor Emeritus at Arizona State University and an Educational Consultant for Gopher Sport. Dr. Pangrazi has been in the education field over 50 years. He began his career as a 5th grade teacher and was an ASU professor of physical education for 32 years. Pangrazi has published over 60 textbooks and 100 research and professional articles. He has been an invited speaker at nearly 500 national and international conferences.
